Reception - Easter Holiday Programme

Designed with a focus on phonics, reading, writing and maths to build mastery skill in readiness for Year 1

The focus is on building strong foundations in phonics, early reading and writing, helping children confidently link sounds to letters, blend and segment words, and begin composing simple sentences with accurate spelling and letter formation. Alongside this, children develop a secure understanding of early numbers through counting, subitising, exploring number bonds within 10 and beyond, and recognising and comparing numbers with confidence.

What the Programme covers:

Phonics & Early Reading
Secure phoneme-grapheme correspondence
Oral blending and segmenting
Early application of phonics in reading
High-frequency and tricky word recognition
Structured retrieval to strengthen retention

Writing Development
Oral composition and sentence rehearsal
Formation of simple sentences with capital letters and full stops
Phonetically plausible spelling
Development of fine motor control and letter formation
Vocabulary enrichment through talk, storytelling and guided writing

Mathematics
Early number sense and counting confidence

Subitising and number bonds within 10 and beyond

Recognising, forming and comparing numbers

Practical problem-solving through play

Explaining thinking using mathematical language

Developing early reasoning skills
