The focus is on building strong foundations in phonics, early reading and writing, helping children confidently link sounds to letters, blend and segment words, and begin composing simple sentences with accurate spelling and letter formation.

• Secure grapheme–phoneme correspondence

• Oral blending and segmenting

• Developing fluency in reading

• High-frequency and tricky word recognition

• Developing early inference

Writing Development

• Oral composition and sentence building

• Formation of sentences with basic punctuation.

• Development of fine motor control and letter formation

• Vocabulary enrichment through talk, storytelling and guided writing
